Delaware Starts The Season 2-0 With A Win Over Lafayette College

The University of Delaware women’s soccer team has won their second straight game of the season with a 2-0 win over Lafayette College at Oaks Stadium.

The standouts in the game for the Blue Hens were senior midfielder  Jessica Kennett, freshman midfielder/forward Claudia Benz and goal keeper and sophomore goal keeper  Kamryn Stablein.

Kennett had one shot, one shot at the goal, one goal and one assist in the win.

Benz had one shot at the goal, one shot and one goal in the win.

Stablein allowed zero goals and had nine saves in 90 minutes of play.

Kennett Gets Delaware On The Board With A Penalty Kick Goal

At 10:56  minute mark,  junior defender Maria Gentile received a red card which meant Delaware was down a player for the rest of the game.

Around the 29:09 minute mark, a yellow card was called on Lafayette College’s Caitlin Balmer which set up a penalty kick for UD’s  Jessica Kennett and the senior midfielder made the goal to give Delaware a 1-0 lead.

The rest of period would be Kamryn Stablein making two saves from the shots of Lafayette College players.

Stablein had five saves in the first 28 mins of this game.

Benz Scores First Goal Of Her Career In Second Half

At the 63:39 minute mark, Claudia Benz would score a goal for Delaware which extended her team’s lead to 2-0. The goal marks the first of Benz career at the University of Delaware. Benz’s goal was assisted by Elizabeth Weimer and Jessica Kennett.

Delaware’s defense would fight the rest of the way to seal the 2-0 road win over Lafayette College.

It is the first time in 11 years that the Blue Hens have recorded back to back shutouts to start a season.

Blue Hens mark their first home game of the season on August 30th against Stony Brook University at 7 pm ET.
