Montgomery’s Two Goals Earns Delaware Season Opening Win Vs Lehigh

The University of Delaware soccer team opened their season up on Friday with a 2-0 win against Lehigh University at  Ulrich Sports Complex.

Last season, Delaware did not earn their first win till the fifth game of the season but the team made sure they were not going to repeat that this season.

The standouts in the game for the Blue Hens were sophomore forward Sara D’Apoolonia, senior defender Alexis Montgomery and sophomore goal keeper Kamryn Stablein.

D’Apoolonia had two shots, one shot at the goal and one assist in the win.

Montgomery had two shots, two shots at the goal and two goals in the win.

Stablein allowed zero goals and had one save in 90 minutes of play.

UD’s Montgomery Scores Near The End Of The Half

The two teams came out to play in the first game of the season as the defense on both sides was pretty stout till the end of the first half.

The scoreboard was silent for most of the first half which was until Alexis Montgomery scored a goal at the 38:51 minute mark to give Delaware a 1-0 lead. Montgomery’s goal was assisted by Sara D’Apoolonia.

Montgomery Hits Second Goal Of The Night For UD

Just like the first half of this game, the defense of the two teams showed their skills as the scoreboard in the second half remained silent for a while.

Mid-way through the second half, there would be action on the scoreboard as Alexis Montgomery, the star of the game for Delaware would hit another goal at the 77:32 minute mark. Montgomery’s second goal of this game would be assisted by Jessica Kennett.

Delaware would ride out the rest of the game to take home a 2-0 season-opening road win.

After a career night for Alexis Montgomery, she could not say enough about her teammates’ support after battling back from some tough surgeries.

Delaware stays on the road to take on Lafayette College on August 25th at 2 PM ET.
