The Wilmington University softball team had one of most dominating seasons in years this season. The team went 39-15 (22-4 in Conference), earned the CACC title in the conference tournament and made it to the NCAA Division II East 2 Regional Tournament. It is no surprise to see players on this team getting showered with accolades for the amazing season these women had in 2019.

On Monday, it was announced that three Wilmington University softball players were named to the 2019 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II All-Region Teams and they were junior outfielder Rosa’Lynn Burton, sophomore third baseman Lauren Lopez and sophomore pitcher Makyala McCarthy. All three Wildcats were named to 2019 NFCA DII East All-Region First teams.

Is there anything that Rosa’Lynn Burton did not do this season because the girl did it all in dominating fashion. Burton had a .517 batting average, .543 on base percentage,.619 slugging percentage, 61 runs, 91 hits, five doubles, five triples, one home run, 26 RBIs, 11 walks and 60 stolen bases in 50 games. The Wilmington outfielder’s .517 batting average was not only the best in the CACC but in all three regions. Burton was the only player in the three regions to bat over .500. The art of stolen base was on display this season, as Burton went 60-60 on attempts which not only led the conference but the region as well. The next leader in the category was not even close to Burton with 36. Burton also broke her own single season record with the 60 stolen bases as it was previously 47.  The speedy outfielder also led the region in on base percentage (.543) hits (91) and slugging percentage (.619).

This is Burton’s second time earning the NFCA First Team East All-Region honor. In 2019, Burton has also received  First Team All-CACC  and CACC Player of the Year.
