Four Lightning Players Score In Double-Digits In Goldey-Beacom’s 68-56 Win Vs Felician

The Goldey-Beacom College women’s basketball team won 68-56 against the Felician University Golden Falcons on Saturday at home at the Joseph West Jones College Center.

The leading scorers for the Lightning in the game were junior guard Amanda McGrogan  and freshman guard Sarah Round who each had 18 points. McGrogan also had a double-double in the game as she collected 10 rebounds with her 18 points.

Two other Goldey Beacom players scored in double-digits and they were sophomore forward Alanna Speaks (12) and senior guard Tanner Turner-Rush (12).

Freshman forward Alexis Harrison was the top player on the boards in the Lightning’s win with 12 rebounds.

Goldey-Beacom had the advantage in multiple categories in the game which included Assists (13-8), Blocks (6-3), Steals (15-5), Points In the Paint ( 26-24), Points off Turnovers ( 26-8) and Second Chance Points ( 14-4).

The Lightning also won the turnover battle by 8-21.

Goldey-Beacom also held an advantage in one shooting category which was overall shooting where the team shot 37.7 % (26-69).

 

McGrogan Scores Four Points But Lightning Trailed By Three At The End Of the 1st Quarter 

The leading scorer for Goldey-Beacom in the first quarter was Amanda McGrogan  with four points.

Both teams shot for 25% (4-16) in the 1st quarter but Felician did better in other areas.

The Golden Falcons hit two three pointers in the quarter and the Lightning did not hit any of their seven attempts.

Felician hit all three of their free throw attempts and Goldey-Beacom hit two out of four of their attempts.

The game started with the Lightning jumping out to a quick 4-0 lead which was thanks to a jump shot by Alanna Speaks and a layup by McGrogan.

The rest of the quarter, the two teams would battle it out with the lead trading between them constantly. The Golden Falcons would ultimately take the lead at the end of first quarter with a 13-10 score.

 

Round Scores 10 In Second Quarter To Help Lead Goldey-Beacom To Halftime Lead 

The leading scorer for Goldey-Beacom in the second quarter was Sarah Round who scored 10 points.

The Lightning improved in shooting in the second quarter as the team shot 47.4% (9-19). Goldey-Beacom also improved in three point shooting in the second quarter as well as the team shot 40.0% (2-5).

Goldey-Beacom did struggle with free throw shooting in the second quarter by shooting 16.7% ( 1-6).

Felician also improved their shooting in the second quarter as they shot 37.5% (6-16).

The Golden Falcons lost the turnover battle by 5-0 in the second quarter and Goldey-Beacom scored seven points off of Felician’s turnovers.

It took some time but at the 7:09 minute mark in the second quarter, Goldey-Beacom tied the game up at 16 with a Sarah Round lay up.

The Lightning would outscore the Golden Falcons 15-12 for the rest of the quarter to take a 31-28 lead into halftime.

First Half Stats

Goldey-Beacom shot 37.1 % ( 13-35)  in the first half and Felician shot 31.3 % (10-32).

The Lightning shot 30.0 % (3-10) at the free throw line and the Golden Falcons shot 100.0 % (4-4).

The leading scorer for Goldey-Beacom in the first half was Sarah Round with 12 points.

The leading scorer for Felician in the first half was Taliyah Brisco with 13 points.

 

Lightning Continue to Capitalize on Felician’s Turnovers For 3rd Qtr Lead

The leading scorer for the Lightning in the third quarter was Amanda McGrogan with 10 points. Goldey-Beacom as a team shot 46.7% ( 7-15) in the third quarter.

The Golden Falcons shot 43.8% (7-16) in the third quarter.

The Lightning won the turnover battle by 3-8 over Felican. Goldey-Beacom scored 10 points off the Golden Falcons 8 turnovers.

Goldey-Beacom went on a 14-8 run at the 5:22 minute mark to take a 51-47 lead into the fourth quarter. The run was led by McGrogan and Tanner Turner-Rush who scored seven points each.

 

Goldey-Beacom Outscores Felician 17-9 In Fourth Quarter To Seal Win

Goldey-Beacom outscored the Golden Falcons 17-9 in the third quarter and the Lightning also continued to score points off Felician’s turnovers.

The fourth quarter started with Goldey-Beacom going on a 13-4 run which increased their lead to 64-51 with 5:10 left in the game.

Goldey-Beacom would outscore Felican 7-5 for the rest of the quarter to seal a 68-56 home win.

The Lightning go on the road to take on Chestnut Hill on January 30th at 6:00pm ET.
