Wesley Starts the Season Off With a 3-0 Win Vs Cairn

Well nothing is better then starting out the season with a shutout victory at home which is what Wesley College Men’s soccer team did Friday.

The Wolverines defended their home turf of Drass Field with a 3-0 win against Cairn University in the team’s season opener.

The standouts in the game for Wesley were senior forward Danny Garza, senior forward Chimaobi Ikwuagwu and junior goalie Kyle Springsteen.

Garza had one shot, one shot on the goal and two assists in the win.

Ikwuagwu had four shots, two shots on the goal and one assist in the win.

Springsteen allowed zero goals and had two saves in 90 minutes of play.

 

23rd Minute First Goal For Wesley

It took some time but at the 23:07 minute mark there was finally a goal on the board which came from Wesley. Wesley’s senior forward Danny Garza scored the goal and was assisted by sophomore forward  Darius-David Robinson on the play. Garza’s goal gave Wesley a 1-0 lead in the first period of the game.

 

Two Goals In the Second Period

Then in the second period, Wesley did not waste any time of scoring a goal this time as sophomore forward  Deekai Gbonimy gave the Wolverines a quick score to open up the period. Gbonimy’s goal was assisted by Danny Garza.

Wesley two goal lead became a three goal lead when forward Chimaobi Ikwuagwu scored a goal at the 68:28 minute mark. Danny Garza had his second assist of day as he assisted Ikwuagwu on the score.

Wesley looks to make it two straight wins on Sunday as they travel to Goucher College. Kickoff is at 4:00pm ET.
