Delaware State University was on a five game losing streak heading into the road game against UNC Asheville but the team snapped the losing streak with a 1-0 win on Friday.
This also marks DSU’s first win of the season and the team’s first shutout win since 2016 against Mount St. Mary’s.
The standouts in this game for the Hornets were freshman forward Savannah Ay, junior forward Alexa Gibbs and senior goalkeeper Leslie Fazio.
Ay had three shots, two shots on goal and one goal in the win.
Gibbs had one shot, one shot on goal and one assist in the win.
Fazio allowed zero goals and had three saves in 87:20 minutes of play.
Game Winning Goal
It came near the end of the first period when DSU’s freshman forward Savannah Ay scored the first and only goal of the game at the 39:03 minute mark of the game. Junior forward Alexa Gibbs had the assist on the game winning goal.
Hornets stay on the road for their next match as they face South Carolina Upstate on Sunday at 1 pm ET.
