There is really no better way to start to the season off, then with a dominating win at home and that is what Goldey-Beacom’s Women Soccer team did on Thursday.
The Lightning were on their home turf of Nancy Churchman Sawin Field on Thursday as the team took down Saint Thomas Aquinas with a 4-0 score in the season opener.
The win also marks the first time Goldey-Beacom won against Saint Thomas Aquinas in three meetings.
One of standouts in the game for Goldey-Beacom was freshman forward Melayna Immediato who had two shots on the goal, two shots, one goal and two assists in the game.
Another stand out in the game was senior goalkeeper Marta Lopez who allowed zero goals and had two saves in 86:03 minutes of play.
First Goal Comes at 35
It took some time but it was Goldey-Beacom who put the first goal on the board for the game as Jenna Fannon tapped in the goal after winning the 50/50 Ball Following Long at the 35:22nd minute and Melayna Immediato was there for the assist on the goal.
Second Half Brings Three More Goals For GBC
At 58:03, Immediato scored a goal of her own which was a impressive shot by she shot it 30 yards over the goalkeeper.
Then about seventeen minutes later, Goldey-Beacom struck again but this time it was senior midfielder Sophie Woods who hit a 20 yard shot which went by the inside of the left post. Emily Woolvin assisted on the goal for Goldey-Beacom.
These two scores had the Lightning at a 3-0 lead in the late part of the game.
Right after Woods scored her goal, Sophomore forward Ali Henriquez scored a goal which was a five yard tap and that made the score 4-0. Henriquez was assisted by Immediato to give her two assists on the day.
Season opening wins are nothing new to Goldey-Beacom this is becomes their third straight opening win.
Goldey-Beacom takes on Daemen on Saturday at 1 pm ET at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field.
