Delaware Women’s Soccer Announce Addition of Sara D’Appolonia

University of Delaware’s Women’s Soccer Head Coach  Mike Barroqueiro announced the addition of the reigning Maine Gatorade Women’s Soccer Player of the Year Sara D’Appolonia on Tuesday.

“Sara was a player that we targeted early in our recruiting process for this class,” Barroqueiro said. “She has an incredibly high soccer IQ and reads the game as well as any player I’ve ever recruited. Her ability to anticipate the play, which is an underrated quality in our country these days, combined with what she does off the ball allows her to be so successful. Her commitment to leave high school early and join us for the spring is further an indication of the type of player and teammate that she wants to be. We are so proud to have her with us.”

D’Appolonia comes from Portland, Maine where she went to  Yarmouth high school, where she dominated on the field. During her high school career, D’Appolonia scored a program-record of 63 goals and had 65 assists.

During her career at Yarmouth high school, D’Appolonia received many honors including two-time Maine State Champion and State Player of the Year selection, selected the 2016-17 Maine Women’s Soccer Gatorade Player of the Year, United Soccer Coaches All-American selection in 2017, two-time All-Region selection,   three-time All-State and All-Conference selection, 2014 Rookie of the Year,  was a three-time Offensive Player of the Year selection and selected for the 2017 High School All-American Game.

D’Appolonia is enrolled for the 2018 spring semester and is eligible to play for the Blue Hens when they start practice in the spring.
