UD Draft Prospects Bring Their Best On Delaware Pro Day

On  Thursday with 12 scouts and multiple reporters watching, three University of Delaware NFL draft prospects went to work on Delaware’s pro day to prove they deserve to get drafted.

The main focus for the NFL Scouts was Blue Hens Tackle Connor Bozick who was ready to show the scouts he was NFL ready. The two other Blue Hens who were showing off their skills were at the pro day and were Safety Simba Gwashavanhu and Punter Will Stephenson.

The three senior Blue Hens went through series of drills that tested their strength, agility and skills to their particular position.

Bozick the two time all-CAA selection who played 46 career games at Delaware was a little surprised on how many teams showed up at the UD Pro Day.

“I expected to come in here and perform well today,” said Bozick. “I didn’t expect this many teams (to have scouts there), so that was pretty cool. I have been training for the last couple of months up in Boston and had a plan to come in here and be ready for any scenario. It was almost like preparing for a game and I think I did really well. I hit some consistent numbers in the broad (jump), bench, and vertical (leap) and felt good running and in the position work.”

The senior lineman who participated in multiple all-star games after the 2016 season just hopes come April that an NFL team will be calling his name to start the next chapter of his football career.

“I just want to get in the best shape of my life and hopefully a team will give me an opportunity,” said Bozick when asked about what the coming months will bring leading up to the NFL Draft in April and the subsequent free agent signing period. “It’s all up in the air right now. If a call comes, I just have to be ready to go.”

The senior Safety  Simba Gwashavanhu who recorded 93 tackles in 31 games at Delaware also went through all the drills for the NFL scouts.

Also, Punter Will Stephenson whose only season at Delaware was in 2016 where he averaged 41.3 yards per kick, showed off his punting skills with some punting exercises in front of the scouts.

All three Hens hope if not drafted or signed after the draft, hopefully they can at least earn a tryout with a NFL team.

If Bozick, Gwashavanhu and Stephenson get signed by a NFL team they would join seven other former Blue Hens in the NFL, which is tied for the most of any NCAA FCS program.
