Wilmington University’s Softball freshman outfielder Rosa’Lynn Burton and junior pitcher Caitlyn Whiteside were named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Players of the Week on Tuesday.
The two players had quite the opening weekend for the Wildcats and helped lead the team to a 3-3 record down in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Rosa’Lynn Burton was a hitting machine during the opening weekend, hitting 10-for-20, 4 doubles, 5 RBIs, 5 runs, and 4 stolen bases. Burton first hit of her college career came during the third inning of the Southern New Hampshire game which a double to the left.The Dover, Delaware native did not stop there, she hit 3-for-4 against Kutztown, then 2-for-3 with 2 doubles and 3 runs vs Shippensburg and 2-for-4 vs Lock Haven. Then she concluded the weekend and went 2 for 3 with a double and 3 RBIs vs Concord.
Caitlyn Whiteside earned the CACC pitcher of the week and well she definitely earned it with the pitching performance she gave last weekend. Whiteside was involved in all the Wildcats wins during the weekend but went 2-1 overall. The Bermuda Dunes, Calif. native had 2 shut out complete games, one vs Southern New Hampshire and the other vs Shippensburg. Overall, Whiteside pitched 20 innings, 0.35 ERA, struck out 12 batters and two walks.
