It was announced Monday, that Wilmington Basketball players Tyaire Ponzo-Meek, Nick Richards and Jamiere Jefferies were all honored by the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with weekly honors.
Ponzo-Meek was named co-player of the week by the Conference with leading the Wildcats to a 3-0 record last week. During the 3 games, the senior guard scored over 25 points in each of three games including his season best 30 points against Felician. The Wilmington guard averaged 25.3 points per game, 6.3 rebounds, shot 54 % from the field and went 16 out 18 from the free throw line this past week.
Richards was named Defensive player of the week by the conference during the Wildcats 3-0 streak. The junior guard had 11 steals, two blocks, and 15 defensive rebounds in three games last week.
Jefferies was named CACC rookie of the week by the conference by leading the women’s team to a 1-1 record. The rookie guard set a season high with 14 points in the win vs Felician. The Germantown, MD native also set another season high against Dominican, grabbing 15 rebounds on the night. The Wilmington guard averaged 11 points, 9.5 rebounds, 61.1% from the field last week.
