NCAA Division II East Regional: Goldey-Beacom scores 4 runs in the 5th inning to snag a victory over Felician

The Goldey-Beacom College baseball team is staying in the winner’s bracket of the NCAA Division II East Regional 2 Tournament, as the team defeated the Felician University Golden Falcons 4-3 on Thursday. The Lightning will now take on Le Moyne at 7 pm ET on Friday.

Game Leaders:

RBIs:   Johnny Kampes, Marlon Lindsey Jr., Darin Miller, and Christian Petrillo would lead the team in RBIs, with one in the win.

Runs: Miller, Demetrius Johnson, Braden Kolmansberger, and Matt Benner also led the team in runs with one in the game.

Hits:   Miller, Petrillo, Kampes, and Garrett Musey would lead the team in hits, with one in the win.

Stolen Bases: Petrillo would lead the team in stolen bases with three.

Game Recap:

Felician would get on the board first in this one as the team scored three runs on two hits and one error in the top of the second inning to take a 3-0 lead.

Two of the three runs that inning came when Julian Uejima hit a double down the left line. Uejima would also score on a throwing error by Goldey-Beacom’s second baseman, which happened two plays later.

Fast forward to the bottom of the fifth inning, where the Lightning lineup started to wake up as they scored four runs on two hits to take a 4-3 lead.

Goldey’s first run of the day came when junior infielder Darin Miller hit an RBI single to left field to cut the score to 3-1.

Two batters later, with the bases loaded, sophomore outfielder Christian Petrillo would get hit by a pitch that would push in a run to slice the deficit to 3-2 in the fifth inning.

Senior catcher Johnny Kampes would be the next batter up, as he slapped an RBI single through the left side to tie the game up at 3.

Senior outfielder Marlon Lindsey Jr would give GBC their first lead of the game when he flew out to the left field, which allowed a run to go home to take the score to 4-3.

Goldey-Beacom’s pitching would do the rest as they held the Golden Falcons hitters to only two hits for the next four innings to seal a 4-3 win.

Pitching recap:

Junior pitcher Jake Kelchner went nine innings, gave up five hits, three runs, two earned runs, four walks, hit a batter, struck out seven batters, and earned the win.
