FCS Round 1 playoffs: Blue Hens advance to the second round after a dominating 56-17 win over Saint Francis (Pa.)

The University of Delaware’s football team is moving on to the second round of the FCS playoffs after making easy work of Saint Francis University Red Flash with a 56-17 victory in the opening match.

The offensive standouts in the game for Delaware were Graduate student Quarterback Nolan Henderson, senior running back Kyron Cumby, senior running back Quincy Watson, sixth-year running back Khory Spruill,  Graduate student wide receiver Thyrick Pitts,  and Graduate student wide receiver Chandler Harvin.

Henderson went 16 for 23 with 266 passing yards with four touchdowns and one interception in the win. He also rushed for one touchdown in the game.

Cumby rushed for 111 yards on ten carries in the win.

Watson rushed for 35 yards on ten carries with one touchdown in the game.

Spruill rushed for 35 yards on six carries with one touchdown in the win.

Pitts had three receptions for 46 yards with one touchdown in the game.

Harvin had four receptions for 128 yards with three touchdowns in the win.

On the defensive side, Graduate student linebacker Johnny Buchanan led the team in tackles with 15 in the win. The Blue Hens’ defense found its way to the quarterback in this game, as the team had three sacks. The three sacks came from Buchanan (.5), fifth-year defensive back Amonte’ Strothers (1), graduate student linebacker Drew Nickles (.5), and sixth-year defensive tackle Artis Hemmingway. Graduate student wide receiver Josh Moran also forced a fumble, and fifth-year defensive back Brandon Dennis recovered one in the game.
