Four Blue Hens score in double-digits in a 72-68 win over Colgate

The University of Delaware men’s basketball team (2-2) won the battle on Friday night over the Colgate University Raiders, as they pulled out a 72-68 victory. The win also marks the first time the Blue Hens have won or played in the Cathedral Classic.

Redshirt sophomore forward Jyáre Davis led the Blue Hens in scoring with 24 points.

Senior guard Christian Ray recorded a double-double in the win with 10 points and 15 rebounds.

Two other Hens players who scored in double-digits were Redshirt junior guard Jameer Nelson Jr. (21), and Graduate Student guard LJ Owens (12).

Delaware had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points off of turnovers (14-11), second-chance points (9-6), turnovers (12-13), blocks (7-1), and steals (5-4).

Delaware also had the advantage in shooting, with the team shooting 47.5 % (28-59) and Colgate shooting 45.0 % ( 27-60). The Blue Hens also bested the Raiders from the three-point line, with the team shooting 36.8%(8-22) and Colgate shooting 36.4%(8-22). Delaware was also the better team at the free-throw line in this game, as the team shot 69.2 %(9-13), and the Raiders shot 50.0 % (6-12).
