University of Delaware’s Director of Athletics and Recreation Services Chrissi Rawak announced on Thursday that the school has extended men’s basketball head coach Martin Ingelsby through the 2023-24 season.

In three seasons as the the head coach of Delaware, Ingelsby has led the program to a 44-55 record. The record does not tell the whole story as the program has steadily been on a uptick since Ingelsby was named coach in the 2016-2017 season.

The 2018-2019 season was the program’s best under Ingelsby so far, as the team went 17-16 and 9-7 at home. The program made it to the Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Tournament semifinals last season which Delaware lost a heartbreaking 78-74 overtime game to Hofstra.

Under Ingelsby, two Blue Hens players have been named CAA Rookie of the Year who were Ryan Allen and former Hen Ryan Daly. The Blue Hens are the only CAA program to have All-Rookie Team selection during Ingelsby’s three seasons.

This year, Blue Hens Eric Carter  was named to the second team All-CAA and All-District honoree and freshman Ithiel Horton was named to the CAA All-Tournament Team.

Coach Ingelsby reflected on the success the program has had and commented on the future in his statement about his extension, via University of Delaware.

“I am truly honored and humbled to be the head coach at the University of Delaware,” Ingelsby said. “I want to thank President Assanis, Chrissi Rawak and the Board of Trustees for their support and commitment to our basketball program. I am proud of the progress we have made over the last three years and couldn’t be more excited about the direction we are heading.”
