The University of Delaware men’s basketball team opened the Colonial Athletic Association tournament with a 66-56 win over the Drexel University Dragons. The Blue Hens will now move on to the semifinals, where they will take on Towson on Monday.
Redshirt freshman Jyare Davis was the leading scorer in the win for the Blue Hens as he had 17 points. Davis also recorded a double-double in the win as he collected ten rebounds with his 17 points.
Two other Blue Hens players who scored in double digits were sophomore forward Andrew Carr (13), and junior guard Jameer Nelson Jr. (11).
Delaware had the advantage in multiple categories in this game, which included points in the paint (40-28), points off of turnovers (11-7), fast-break points (4-2), bench points (13-8), rebounds (37-32), assists (9-3), blocks (3-1), and steals (4-2).
Blue Hens also had the advantage in shooting as well, with the team shooting 47.3% (26-55) and with Drexel shooting 37.9 % % (22-58). The Hens bested the Dragons from the three-point line as well, with the team shooting 23.1 %(3-13) and Drexel shooting 17.4 %(4-23).
