Ligonde posts double-double & leads late rally in Goldey-Beacom’s 68-65 win over Georgian Court

Goldey-Beacom trails by four points at the end of the first half

This game would be a battle from the beginning as the two teams exchanged the lead six times and tied the score three times in the first ten minutes of the first half. The last bucket during those ten minutes came from Georgian Court’s Olisa Ngonadi, who tipped the ball in to give his team a five-point lead (25-20).

About three minutes later, the Lions would push their lead to eight points (33-25) as they outscored the Lightning 8-5.

Starting at the 6:20 minute mark, Goldey-Beacom would outscore Georgian Court 12-8 to cut the lead to four points (41-37) at the end of the first half. The duo of Nazim Derry and Mattia Morini would score eight of the 12 points on the run. The defense was also a factor on the run, as they had three steals and three defensive rebounds.

Lightning win 68-65!

Goldey-Beacom would open up the second half by dashing out to a 10-2 run, which gave the team a 47-43 lead with 15:08 left in the game. The leader of this run would be Juran Ligonde, who scored seven of the ten points.

Two minutes later, the Lions would score four straight points to tie the game at 47 with 13:03 remaining in the game.

Starting at the 12:27 minute mark, the game went up another notch as the two teams exchanged the lead seven times and tied the score three times in the next seven minutes and 27 seconds. The last bucket during that time would come from the Lightning’s Nazim Derry, who made two free throw shots to give his team a 59-57 lead with 5:06 left in the second half. Derry would follow the free throw shots up with a made layup to push Goldey-Beacom’s lead to 61-57 with 4:33 remaining in the game.

The Lightning’s lead would tighten to two points (61-59) after Georgian Court made two free throw shots at the 4:14 minute mark.

Starting at the 3:50 minute mark, Goldey-Beacom would outscore the Lions 5-2 to extend their lead to five points (66-61) with 2:28 left in the game. Ligonde was the impact player during this time as he scored all five points and collected four rebounds.

Seconds later, the Lions would trim the lead to one point (66-65) by hitting back-to-back layups with 1:31 remaining in the game.

As the seconds ran down, the Lightning would make two free throws shots to seal a 68-65 win over Georgian Court.
