Blue Hens second-half surge secures 73-38 win over Hofstra

Blue Hens lead by six points after one quarter of play

Delaware would be the team who would open up fast in this game as they took a 13-4 lead with 3:43 left in the first quarter. The University of Delaware would drain three shots from the three-point line on this run as Tyi Skinner made two and senior guard Paris McBride made one. Rebounding was also a factor on the run as the team collected nine rebounds.

Seconds later, the Pride would outscore the Blue Hens 8-5 to cut the lead to six points (18-12) after one quarter of play.

Hofstra would bring the momentum they had in the late minutes of the opening quarter to the second as the team outscored Delaware 8-5 to pull the lead to three points (23-20) with 4:15 left in the first half.

Starting at the 1:53 minute mark, the Hens would outscore the Pride 6-3 to end the first half with a 29-23 lead. The impact player during this run was Makayla Pippin, who scored four points, had one steal, and collected one rebound.

The Blue Hens came charging out of halftime on a 13-4 run, which extended their lead to 42-27 with 5:42 left in the third quarter. The quartet of Paris McBride, Ty Battle, Jasmine Dickey, and Tyi Skinner would score all 13 points on the run. McBride and Skinner would each drain a three-point shot on the run.

About 34 seconds later, Delaware’s hot streak continued as the team went on a 14-6 run to end the quarter with a 56-33 lead. The leader of this run was Tara Cousins, who scored nine of the 14 points. All of Cousins’s points came from the three-point line.

Hofstra could not stop Delaware as the team came out in the opening minutes of the final quarter scoring 13 unanswered points to push the lead to 69-33 with five minutes left in the game. Jasmine Dickey was the leader of this run as she scored six of the 13 points.

As the minutes ticked down, the Blue Hens would add four more points to their score to seal a 73-38 win over the Pride.
