The University of Delaware Blue Hens women’s basketball team earned their eighth victory of the season on Friday as the team defeated the Hofstra University Pride in a blowout 73-38 win.
The game was pretty close in the first half as the Hens were only leading by six points at the half. The Blue Hens would blow the doors off of the tight lead in the second half as the team outscored the Pride 44-15 to secure the dominating victory.
Delaware has been pretty good in this matchup as the team has now won the last 13 meetings against Hofstra.
The leading scorer in the win for the Blue Hens was sophomore guard Tara Cousins, who scored 17 points.
Senior guard/forward Jasmine Dickey recorded a double-double in the win as she had 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Sophomore guard Tyi Skinner also scored in double-digits in the win with 12 points.
Dickey was not the Hens player to have double-digits in rebounds on the night, as senior guard/forward Makayla Pippin collected ten rebounds.
Delaware had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points off turnovers (23-10), second-chance points (11-2), fast-break points (11-6), bench points (31-8), rebounds (47-29), assists (19-4), turnovers (17-21), and blocks (4-2).
Blue Hens also had the advantage in shooting as well, with the team shooting 41.2 % (28-68) and with Hofstra shooting 31.3 % (15-48). The Hens bested the Pride from the three-point line as well, with the team shooting 55.0 %(11-20 ) and Hofstra shooting 16.7% (2-12). Delaware was also the better team at the free-throw line in this game as the team shot 66.7 %(6-9), and the Pride shot 42.9% (6-14).
