Goldey-Beacom leads by one point after one-quarter of play
In the opening minutes of this game, Staten Island would run off with a 5-1 lead with 7:29 left in the first quarter.
Seconds later, the Lightning would strike with an 8-2 run, which would give them a 9-7 lead with 3:33 left in the first quarter. Junior forward Vera Lauhaluoma was the leader of this run as she scored six of the eight points.
In the last 1:54 minutes of the first quarter, the Dolphins would outscore Goldey 4-3 to cut the lead to one point (12-11).
Lightning leads by one point at the end of the first half
The second quarter would start with Staten Island scoring six unanswered points, which gave the team a 15-12 lead with 8:47 left in the first half.
Starting at the 8:26 minute mark, Goldey-Beacom would score five unanswered points, which would tie the game at 17 with 7:49 left in the second quarter.
At the 5:59 minute mark, the Dolphins would answer back by scoring six straight points, which would give them a 23-17 lead with 3:45 left in the first half.
Twenty seconds later, the Lightning would go on a 12-5 run to end the first half with a 29-28 lead. The duo of Sarah Round and Alexis Harrison scored ten of the 12 points on the run. The offense was not the only thing these two did on this run, as they made plays on the defensive side of the ball too. Harrison had three rebounds and a block, and Round had a steal on the run.
Goldey-Beacom leads by five points after three-quarters of play
In the first three minutes of the second half, Staten Island would outscore the Lightning 5-4 to tie the game at 33 with 7:25 left in the third quarter.
Starting at the 6:49 minute mark, Goldey Beacom College would outscore the Dolphins 10-6, which would give them a 43-39 lead with 3:33 left in the third quarter. The three-point shot was a key factor during this time, as six of their ten points came from there. Sarah Round and Briana Seltzer would each make a shot from the three-point line.
In the last 3:22 minutes of the third quarter, the Lightning would outscore Staten Island 9-8 to take a 52-47 lead.
Lightning win 71-67!
The final quarter would start with Goldey-Beacom dashing off to a 9-2 run, which gave them a 12 point lead (61-49) with 6:51 left in the game. Sophomore forward Janiya Stevens led the run as she scored five of the nine points.
Seconds later, the Dolphins would fight back as the team went on an 18-8 run, which cut the lead to two points (69-67) with two seconds left in the game.
In the last second of the game, Stevens would make two shots from the free-throw line, which would seal a 71-67 win for Goldey-Beacom.
