The University of Delaware men’s basketball team won their third game of the season on Tuesday as the team defeated the Appalachian State University Mountaineers 75-68 in round one of the Gulf Coast Showcase.
The leading scorer for the Blue Hens in the win was fifth-year guard Ryan Allen, who had 22 points.
Three other Blue Hens players scored in double digits, which were Graduate Student Dylan Painter (17), junior guard Jameer Nelson Jr. (15), and sophomore forward Andrew Carr (21).
Delaware had the advantage in multiple categories in this game, which included points in the paint (28-20), second-chance points (5-4), fast-break points (6-4), rebounds (22-18), and blocks (1-0).
Blue Hens also had the advantage of shooting as well, with the team shooting 61.0 %( 25-41) and with Appalachian State shooting 44.0 %( 22-50). Delaware also bested the Mountaineers at the free-throw line as the team shot 85.7%(18-21) and Appalachian State shot 73.7 %(14-19).
