Dickey scores 31 in Blue Hens 79-48 win over in-state rival Delaware State

The University of Delaware women’s basketball team won the battle in the Route 1 Rivalry on Friday, as the team defeated the Delaware State University Hornets 79-48. What helped Delaware pull away in this game? The team outscored Delaware State by 22 in (43-21) in the first half. Also, they won the turnover battle with only turning the ball over three times compared to DSU turning it over 17 times.

The leading scorer in the win for the Hens was senior guard/forward Jasmine Dickey, who recorded 31 points and ten rebounds.

Redshirt junior forward Ty Battle recorded a double-double in the win with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Graduate Student forward Lizzie Oleary also scored in double-digits in the game with ten points.

Delaware had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points in the paint (42-18), points off turnovers (20-0), second-chance points (14-9), fast-break points (14-0), bench points (14-0), rebounds (48-41), assists (15-9), turnovers (3-17), blocks (5-2), and steals (6-0).

Blue Hens also had the advantage in shooting as well, with the team shooting 39.7 % (29-73) and Delaware State shooting 34.5 %(19-55). The Hens bested the Hornets from the free-throw line as well, with the team shooting 68.0 %(17-25) and DSU shooting 42.9 %(63-14).
