College basketball is back!! The University of Delaware women’s basketball team opened up their season on Tuesday with a dominating 87-48 win over the Chestnut Hill College Griffins.
The leading scorer in the win for the Hens was senior guard/forward Jasmine Dickey, who recorded a double-double with 25 points and ten rebounds.
Three other Blue Hens scored in double digits in the win, which was sophomore guard Tyi Skinner (18), sophomore guard Tara Cousins (15), and Redshirt junior forward Ty Battle (10).
Delaware had the advantage in multiple categories in the game, which included points in the paint (34-22), points off turnovers (22-5), second-chance points (20-5), fast-break points (12-7), bench points (46-26), rebounds (52-33), assists (16-10), turnovers (16-24), blocks (5-1), and steals (8-2).
Blue Hens also had the advantage in shooting as well, with the team shooting 41.9 % (31-74) and with Chestnut Hill shooting 29.8 % (17-52). The Hens bested the Griffins from the three-point line as well, with the team shooting 40.9 %(9-22) and Chestnut Hill shooting 21.4 % (3-14). Delaware was also the better team at the free-throw line in this game as the team shot 88.9 % (16-18), and the Griffins shot 61.1 % (11-18).
