The University of Delaware men’s soccer team opened up their season on Wednesday with a 1-0 win over Saint Joseph’s University Hawks.
The standouts in the game for the Blue Hens were sophomore forward Josh Hesson, freshman forward Forster Ajago, and junior goalkeeper Renan Thomazo.
Hesson had one shot, one shot on goal, and one goal in the win.
Ajago had one shot and one assist in the win.
Thomazo allowed zero goals and had three saves in 90 minutes of play.
Hens score one goal in the first period, which was enough to win
The scoring in this game did not happen right away as the scoreboard was silent for a while, but Delaware would change that at the 23:27 minute mark.
At the 23:37 minute mark, Josh Hesson would find the net, which would give the Blue Hens a 1-0 lead. Hesson’s goal was assisted by Forster Ajago.
Delaware played aggressive ball in the first period of this game as the team was called for two yellow cards.
In the second period, the Hens goalie Renan Thomazo and their defense carried the team the rest of the way as he had three saves. As the clock marched to the 90th minute, the Blue Hens would seal a 1-0 win over the Hawks.
