Kent records double-double in Hornets 75-58 win over St. Mary’s (MD)

Hornets lead by eight at the end of the first half

The game started with DSU jumping out to a 13-5 lead with 14:20 left in the first half of the game. John Stansbury was the leader of the run as he scored five of the 13 points. Delaware State would hit two shots from the three-point line on this run, which came from Stansbury and Pinky Wiley.

About a minute later, the Seahawks would answer back with a 13-6 run of their own, which cut the lead to one point (19-18) with 8:59 left in the first half.

Seconds later, the Hornets would outscore St. Mary’s 22-15 to end with a 41-33 lead at the end of the first half. The trio of Myles Carter, Zach Kent, and Wiley would score 20 of DSU’s 22 points during that time. Delaware State continued their hot streak from downtown as the team hit four shots from the three-point line, which came from Carter (1) and Wiley (3).

Delaware State wins by 17

In the first six minutes of the second half, the Hornets buzzed out on a 16-0 run which gave the team a 57-33 lead with 14:05 left in regulation. The duo of Zach Kent and Pinky Wiley would score 9 of the 16 points on the run. Rebounding was a key on the run as the team collected ten rebounds.

DSU would continue to add to their lead, as in the next nine minutes of the second half, the team would score 14 more points to give them a 71-46 lead with 3:58 left in the game. Kent would score six of the 14 points during that time.

As the game started to wind down, the Hornets would score four more points to seal a 75-58 win over the Seahawks.
