Delaware Sports Blitz will be showcasing student-athletes performances from this past season each week.
Each week we will look at different colleges from the state of Delaware and showcase their athlete’s performance in the chosen sport of the week.
This week is all about Wesley’s softball team which will continue with junior infielder Bianca Newsom.
Newsom had a .386 batting average, .426 on-base percentage, .500 slugging percentage, 14 runs, 17 hits, three doubles, one triple, six RBIs, three walks, four strikeouts, and 10 stolen bases in 14 games. The junior infielder led the team in stolen bases for the 2020 season.
On the defensive side, Newsom had 42 catches for 24 putouts, 14 assists, four errors, a fielding percentage of .905, and one double play in 14 games.
The Edison New Jersey native was among the best in the Atlantic East Conference in stealing bases as Newsom was first with 10. The Wesley infielder also was third in runs scored, second in hits and ninth in doubles in the conference.

Wesley Takes A Dominating 9-0 Win Over Washington College
The Wolverines would score multiple runs in the first, fifth, and sixth innings to win with ease a 9-0 game over Washington College on February 22nd.
Newsom had one run, one hit, one RBI and one strikeout in the win.
Wolverines Snap Three-Game Losing Streak With 8-0 Win Vs Hilbert
Wesley’s pitching held Hilbert to three hits in this game, as the Wolverines offense would pile on the runs to get an 8-0 win.
Newsom had one run, one hit, and two stolen bases in the win.
Wesley Wins Fifth Game Of The Season With 8-0 Win Over Muhlenberg
On March 2nd, The Wolverines would win their second straight game with a score of 8-0 but this time it would come against Muhlenberg.
Newsom had one run, one hit, one RBI, one walk, one strikeout, and a stolen base in the win. On the defensive side, Newsom had three catches for one putout, two assists, and one double play.
Offense Scores 11 Runs To Take 11-3 Win Vs St. Elizabeth
In the early innings of this game, Wesley would score four runs and then the team would later add on a combined seven runs in the fourth and fifth innings of this one to take an 11-3 win of St. Elizabeth.
Newsom had three runs, three hits, one double, and one triple in this game. On the defensive side, Newsom had four catches for one putout, two assists, and one error.
Wesley Sweeps St. Elizabeth
After scoring 11 runs in the first game against St. Elizabeth, the Wolverines offense did not take their foot off the pedal in the second game, as the team cruised to a 13-0 win.
Newsom had one run, two hits, and one stolen base in the win. On the defensive side, Newsom had two catches for two putouts.
Wolverines Take 1-0 Win Vs, Cedar Crest
Wesley’s sophomore pitcher Jessica Anderson had a stellar day on the mound in this one as she only allowed four hits in a complete-game shutout which led to a 1-0 win over Cedar Crest.
On the defensive side, Newsom had two catches for two putouts.
Wesley Winning Streak Hits Six
After not having much offense in the last win, the Wolverines dominating hitting would show up in this game as the team had 11 hits which turned into a 9-0 win against East Mennonite on March 4th.
Newsom had two runs, three hits, two RBIs and one stolen base in the win. On the defensive side, Newsom had three catches for one putout and two assists.
Winning Streak Extends To Seven With 3-1 Win Vs Wilkes
On March 6th, Wesley would win their seventh straight game with a 3-1 win over Wilkes.
Newsom struck out in the game. On the defensive side, Newsom had three catches for one putout and two assists.
Wolverines Take A 4-2 Win Over Waynesburg
The Wolverines had nine hits in this game which the team turned into four runs, as it led Wesley to a 4-2 win over Waynesburg.
Newsom had two runs, two hits, one double, and a stolen base in the win. On the defensive side, Newsom had six catches for four putouts and two assists.
Wesley Closes Season With A 7-3 Win Vs Stevenson
On March 11th, Wesley would score a combined six runs in the fourth and fifth innings which would lead to a 7-3 win over Stevenson.
Newsom had one hit, one double, and one RBI in the win. On the defensive side, Newsom had seven catches for five putouts, one assist and one error.
