Delaware Sports Blitz will be showcasing student-athletes performances from this past season each week.

Each week we will look at different colleges from the state of Delaware and showcase their athlete’s performance in the chosen sport of the week.

This week is all about Wesley’s women’s basketball team which will start with sophomore forward Angelique Gathers.

Gathers averaged nine points per game, 6.1 rebounds per game,1.9 assists and 1.2 steal in 25.1 minutes per game in 24 games this season. The Wesley sophomore also recorded three double-doubles in the season. The forward led the team in scoring points per game with nine points.

Gathers also shot 70.4% from the free-throw line this season.

The Wesley forward was in the top 20th ( ranked 18th) of the Atlantic East Conference for scoring average per game with nine. The Long Branch, New Jersey native also was one of the rebounding leaders in the conference, as Gathers was in the top 12  ( ranked 11th) with 6.1 rebounds a game. The sophomore forward was also among the top 20 ( ranked 19th) in assists per game in the AEC as she had 1.9.

Game One: 83-49 Loss To King’s College

The opening game of the season did not go Wesley’s way as the team lost 83-49 to King’s College.

Gathers had one of her highest scoring point totals of the season in the opening game which was 21 points.

First Win Of The Season: 53-35 Win Vs Lehman

The Wolverines notched their first win of the season against Lehman with a dominating 53-35 win.

The Wesley forward came up big on the boards in this game as she recorded 10 rebounds.

Two Games Later, the Same Result As Wesley Gets A 63-41 Win Vs Lehman

Wesley welcomed back Lehman to the court with another solid win against the team as the score was 63-41.

Gathers would have 18 points, a 54.5 FG%, 50% from the three-point range, and five rebounds.

Back To Back Wins For Wesley Vs Medgar Evers

December was a good month for Wesley as the team captured three wins in that month and two of the three wins would come from playing Medgar Evers.

In the first game against Medgar Evers, Wesley defeated the team 58-56.

In the first game against Medgar Evers, Gathers had 14 points and 12 rebounds in the win.

The second game against Medgar Evers was not close at all, as the Wolverines defeated the team 52-34.

Gathers would have 13 points and 11 rebounds in the win.

Wesley Gets Fifth Win At Home Vs Cairn

In their last December game, Wesley finished the month off strong with a 60-36 win against Cairn.

Gathers would have five points, two rebounds, two assists, and one steal in the game.

Wolverines Break Nine Game Losing Streak In Win Vs Valley Forge

Wesley’s last win of the season came against Valley Forge as the score was 67-43.

Gathers would tie a season-high in points with 21 and also had 12 rebounds in the game.
