Wesley’s Winning Streak Hits Six With 87-77 Win Vs Cabrini

The Wesley College men’s basketball team has now won six straight games as the team defeated the Cabrini University Cavaliers 87-77 on Wednesday at the Wentworth Gymnasium.

The leading scorer of the game for Wesley was senior guard Brian Cameron who scored 21 points. Cameron also recorded a double-double in this game as he had 10 rebounds with his 21 points. This is Cameron’s ninth double-double of the season.

Senior forward Terrence Braxton recorded his third double-double of the season, as he had 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Two other Wolverines scored in double digits in the win which was sophomore guard Greg Bloodsworth (15) and freshman forward Brye Hopkins (17).

Wesley had the advantage in multiple categories in the game which included points off turnovers (27-16), second-chance points (26-6),fast-break points (10-4), bench points (40-16), rebounds (52-36), assist (11-10), turnovers (21-14), blocks (4-3) and steals (13-6).

Wesley also held the advantage at the free-throw line with the team having an 81.6 % shooting percentage (31-38) and with the Cabrini having a 60.9 % (14-23) shooting percentage.

Wolverines Hold A Nine-Point Lead A The Half

Wesley shot 38.89 % (14-36) in the first half and the team also shot 73.33 % (11-15) at the free-throw line.

The Cavaliers shot 38.71 % (12-31) in the first half and the team also shot 53.85 % (7-13) at the free-throw line.

The game started with Wesley striking first with a quick 7-0 lead which was led by Terrence Braxton who scored three of the seven points.

Starting at the 16:23 minute mark, Cabrini would go on a 14-7 run which would tie the game up at 14 with 10:58 left in the first half.

In the next six and half minutes, the two teams would trade blows back and forth as there would be seven lead changes and five times the score was tied. At the 4:15 minute mark, the score was tied at 30 but Wesley would outscore the Cavs 12-6 for the rest of the half to take a 42-36 lead.

Brye Hopkins was the leading man on that run as he scored six of the 12 points.

Wesley Leans On Free Throw Shooting To Seal Win

The Wolverines shooting took a dip in the second half as the team shot 34.29 % (12-35) and they also shot 86.96 % (20-23) at the free-throw line.

Cabrini improved their shooting in the second half as the team shot 48.48 % (16-33) and they also shot 70.00 % (7-10) at the free-throw line.

Starting at the 13:46 minute mark, the Cavs would go on a 10-6 run which would pull Wesley’s lead to 62-56 with 9:24 left in the game.

The Wolverines would answer back with a 12-6 run of their own which pushed their lead to 74-62 with 6:43 left in the game. Wesley made five free throws during this scoring stretch.

Cabrini would outscore Wesley 15-13 for the rest of the half but it would not matter as the Wolverines still took home a 87-77 win.

Wesley heads on the road to take on Gwynedd Mercy on February 22nd at 3 PM ET.
