Braxton, Cameron & Hopkins Record Double-Doubles In Wesley’s 83-71 Win Vs Immaculata

The Wesley men’s basketball team has now won four straight games as the team defeated the Immaculata University Mighty Macs 83-71 on Saturday at Wentworth Gymnasium.

The leading scorer of the game for Wesley was senior guard Brian Cameron who scored 27 points. Cameron also recorded a double-double in this game as he had 15 rebounds with his 27 points. This is Cameron’s eighth double-double of the season.

Senior forward Terrence Braxton and freshman forward Brye Hopkins also recorded double-doubles in the game.

Braxton recorded his second double-double of the season as he had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Hopkins recorded his first double-double of the season as he had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Two other Wolverines scored in double digits in the win which were sophomore guard Greg Bloodsworth (22) and senior guard Mychal Stefanides (10).

Wesley had the advantage in multiple categories in the game which included points off of turnovers (19-5),second-chance points (23-11), rebounds (48-38), assists (19-8), turnovers (4-12), blocks (2-0) and steals (4-2).

The Wolverines bested Immaculata at the three-point line having a 37.9% shooting percentage (11-29) and with the Mighty Macs having a 27.8% (5-18) shooting percentage. Wesley also held the advantage at the free-throw line with the team having a 64.0% shooting percentage (16-25) and with the Immaculata having a 50.0% (14-28) shooting percentage.

Wesley Leads By Seven At The Half

The Wolverines shot  42.11 % (16-38) in the first half and the team also shot 75.00 % (6-8) at the free-throw line.

The Mighty Macs shot 48.15 % (13-27) in the first half and the team also shot 47.06 % (8-17) at the free-throw line.

In the first five minutes of this game, neither team would budge as there were three tied scores and five lead changes among the two teams.

At the 14:20 minute mark, Wesley would put some breathing room in their lead as the team went on a 12-5 run. The run gave the Wolverines a 24-16 lead with 9:04 left in the half. Brian Cameron was the leader on this run as he scored eight of the 12 points.

Immaculata would outscore the Wolverines 20-19 for the rest of the half to decrease Wesley’s lead to 43-36.

The Wolverines Lean On Their Free Throw Shooting To Seal Win

As a team, Wesley would shoot 38.71 % (12-31) in the second half and the team also shot 58.82 % (10-17) at the free-throw line.

The Mighty Macs shot 43.33 % (13-30) in the second half and the team also shot 54.55 % (6-11) at the free-throw line.

Wesley outscored Immaculata 19-12 in the first nine of the second half which pushed their lead to 62-48 with 11:12 left in the game.  Greg Bloodsworth led the run by scoring 10 of the 19 points.

Starting at the 6:06 minute mark, the Mighty Macs would outscore Wesley 10-6 for the rest of half but Wesley would still take home a comfortable 83-71 win.

Wesley goes on the road to take on Marywood on February 15th at 3 PM ET.
