On Wednesday night, one team separated Wesley from a spot in the Atlantic East Conference Championship and that was the Gwynedd Mercy Griffins. Wesley pulled out a 1-0 win against the Griffins at Drass field.
The standouts in the game for Wesley were freshman midfielder Julie Snow, freshman forward Carly Setting and junior goalkeeper Lauren Berry.
Snow had two shots, two shots at the goal, and scored one goal.
Setting had two shots, one shot at the goal, and one assist.
Berry allowed zero goals and had four saves in 60 minutes of play.
Winning Goal Comes In the Second Period
The defensive play on both sides was strong in this game as neither team could score a goal in the first period. That would change in the second period as Wesley finally found a way through Griffin’s defense to get a score on the board.
At the 20:48 minute mark in the second period, Carly Setting assisted Julie Snow’s goal for Wesley which gave the team a 1-0 lead.
After Wesley’s score, the scoreboard was silent as the two team’s defenses were stout for the last two periods of the game.
Wesley would end the game with a 1-0 win, which means the team will take on Marywood on November 9th in the AEC Championship.
