The University of Delaware field hockey team opened their 2019 season up with a 1-0 win on Friday against the University of Albany at Rullo Stadium.
The standouts in the game for the Blue Hens were freshman midfielder Ashlyn Carr and Redshirt Senior goalkeeper Sydney Rhodes.
Car had one shot, one shot at the goal and scored one goal.
Rhodes allowed zero goals and had three saves in 60 minutes of play.
Winning Goal Comes in Fourth Period
The defense for both teams came to play in this game as the scoreboard was silent for three periods.
Delaware’s goal keeper Sydney Rhodes had two saves in the second period and one in third from the incoming shots of the Albany players.
The silence of the scoreboard ended in the fourth period when Ashlyn Carr scored a goal at the 47:21 minute mark of the game.
The defense defended the lead well as the team sealed the 1-0 win for their first one of the season.
