Goldey-Beacom Moving On To CACC Semifinals As McGrogan Scores 30 In 75-60 Win Vs Dominican College NY

The Goldey-Beacom women’s basketball team is moving on the the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Semifinals as the team beat the Dominican College (NY) Chargers 75-60 on Tuesday at the Hennessy Center.

The last time these two teams met up was back on February 16th when Goldey-Beacom took a tough 100-97  double overtime loss to Dominican.

In this CACC quarterfinal game, the leading scorer for the Lightning was  junior guard Amanda McGrogan who scored 30 points.

Sophomore forward Alanna Speaks had a double-double in Goldey-Beacom’s win as she scored 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Senior guard Tanner Turner-Rush also scored in double digits in the Lightning’s win as she had 13 points.

Goldey-Beacom had the advantage in multiple categories in the game which included Assists (15-9), Steals (9-1), Points off Turnovers (21-6) and Second Chance Points (22-10).

The Lightning also won the turnover battle in the game by 5-15.

Goldey-Beacom also had the advantage at the three point line in the game as the team shot 36.4 % (8-22) and the Chargers shot 26.3 % (5-19).

 

Speaks & McGrogan Combine For 12 Points As Lightning Trail In First Quarter

The leading scorers for the Lightning in the first quarter were Alanna Speaks and Amanda McGrogan who each scored six points in the quarter.

The first quarter started with the Lighting holding a  4-3 lead which would be the last time the team would have the lead in the quarter.

The Chargers would get a 7-4 lead in the first quarter and never look back, even with the Lightning tying the score twice.

Starting at the 2:48 minute mark, Dominican would outscore Goldey-Beacom 8-7 to end the quarter with a 19-17 lead.

 

McGrogan Scores 10 Points As Goldey Beacom Trails At The Half

The leading scorer for the Lightning in the second quarter was Amanda McGrogan who scored 10 points.

At the 8:03 minute mark, Goldey-Beacom went on a 10-4 run which gave them a 27-26 lead with 5:55 left in the half.

The Chargers would outscore the Lightning 12-6 for the rest of the quarter to take a 38-35 lead into halftime.

 

First Half Stats

Goldey-Beacom shot 38.5 %( 15-39)  in the first half and Dominican shot 48.5 % (16-33).

The Lightning shot 60.0 %(3-5) at the free throw line and the Chargers shot 75.0 % (3-4).

The leading scorer for Goldey-Beacom in the first half was Amanda McGrogan with 16 points.

The leading scorer for Dominican in the first half was Samantha McClutchy with 10 points.

McGrogan Scores 12 Points As Goldey Beacom Takes Third Qtr Lead

The leading scorer for the Lightning in the third quarter was Amanda McGrogan who scored 12 points.

At the 8:12 minute mark, Goldey-Beacom went on a 9-2 run to tie the game up at 46 with 6:32 left in the quarter. McGrogan led the charge on the 9-2 run with scoring eight out of the nine points in the run.

The Lightning would outscore the Chargers 10-9 for the rest of the quarter to take a 56-55 lead into the fourth.

Turner-Rush Scores Six Points In 4th Qtr As Lightning Seals Win

The leading scorer for Goldey-Beacom in the fourth quarter was Tanner Turner-Rush who scored six points.

The quarter started with the Lightning going on a 10-1 run which increased their lead to 66-56 with 05:26 left in the game.

Goldey-Beacom would outscore the Chargers 9-4 for the rest of the quarter to seal a  75-60 win and their place in the semifinals.

The Lightning travel to Caldwell, New Jersey to take on Jefferson on March 9th at 7PM ET.
