Wesley Moving On To Atlantic East Semifinals After 87-69 Win Vs Cabrini

The Wesley College men’s basketball team will be moving on to the Semifinals in the Atlantic East Tournament as the team defeated Cabrini University Cavaliers 87-69 on Monday.

The leading scorer of the game for Wesley was junior guard Brian Cameron who scored a career high 48 points. Cameron also collected 11 rebounds for a double-double in the game.

Senior guard Tyrone Craven also recorded a double-double in the Wolverines win with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Wesley had the advantage in multiple categories in the game which included Rebounds ( 53-33), Assists ( 17-11), Second Chance Points ( 16-2), Points In The Paint ( 30-20) and Fastbreak Points (8-4).

The Wolverines also had the advantage in shooting as well, with the team shooting 47.0% ( 31-66) and with Cabrini shooting 37.1% (23-62). Wesley also held the advantage in three point shooting with the team having  a 50% shooting percentage (13-26) and with the Cavaliers having a  35.3% (12-34) shooting percentage.

Cameron Scores 20 But Wesley Still Trails By One At The Half

The leading scorer for the Wolverines in the first half was Brian Cameron who scored 20 points. As a team, Wesley shot 41.2% (14-34) in the first half and they also shot 54.5% (6-11) at three point line.

Cabrini shot 37.5% (12-32) in the first half and they also shot 41.2% (7-17) at the three point line . The Cavaliers also did well at the foul line with shooting 50% ( 4-8) in the first half.

Cabrini won the turnover battle in the first half over Wesley by 7-10.

The Wolverines out rebounded the Cavaliers 25-16 in first half.

The game started with Wesley jumping out to a quick 6-2 lead which was thanks to Cameron’s back to back three pointers.

Cabrini would hit a three of their own in the next possession to decrease Wesley’s lead to 6-5  with 17:02 left in the half.

Then, around the 16:12 minute mark, the Wolverines would go on a 8-0 run to increase their lead to 14-5 with 14:22 left in the half.

The Cavaliers would go on a 7-0 run around the the 9:17 minute mark to tie the game up at 23 with 8:16 left in the half.

Cabrini would outscore Wesley 12-11 for the rest of the quarter to go in to the half with a 35-34 lead.

First Half Stats

Wesley shot 41.2% (14-34) in the first half and Cabrini shot 37.5% (12-32).

Wolverines shot 54.5% (6-11) at the three point line and the Cavaliers shot 41.2% (7-17).

The leading scorer in the first half for Wesley was Brian Cameron who had 20 points.

The leading scorer in the first half for the Cavaliers was DJ Smith who had eight points.

 

Cameron & Craven Combine for 41 Points To Help Wesley Move On To The Semifinals

The leading scorer in the second half for Wesley was Brian Cameron who scored 28 points. Cameron’s teammate, Tyrone Craven also scored in double digits in the second half as he had 13 points.

As a team, Wesley was finding better shots in the second half as the team shot 53.1% (17-32).  The Wolverines also took advantage of their time at the foul line as the team shot 70.6% (12-17).

Cabrini’s shooting dipped some in the second half as the team shot 36.7% (11-30) and they also shot 70.0% ( 7-10) at the foul line.

The Wolverines won the turnover battle in the second half over the Cavaliers by 3-6.

Wesley also out rebounded Cabrini 22-14 in the second half.

The second half started with the Wolverines outscoring the Cavaliers 11-9 to give them a 43-41 lead with 17:21 left in the game. Cameron led the charge on the run with  scoring five of the 11 points in the run for Wesley.

Then around the 6:20 minute mark, the Wolverines took full control of the game when the team went on a 16-2 run to increase their lead to 83-67 with 3:31 left in the game. Cameron led the way on the run with scoring all 16 points in the 16-2 run for Wesley.

The Wolverines would hit four straight foul shots to seal a 87-69 win that moves them on to the Atlantic East Semifinals.

Wesley heads to Gwynedd Mercy for the Atlantic East Semifinal on February 20th at 7:00pm ET.
