The Wilmington University women’s basketball team have now won two straight games to start the new year as the team won 77-59 on Saturday at Wilmington University Athletics Complex against Nyack College Warriors.
The leading scorer for the Wildcats in the game was graduate student guard Macy Robinson with 19 points.
Sophomore forward Jadyn Whitsitt was right behind Robinson in points scored with 18 points in Wilmington’s win.
Wilmington’s senior forward Nyree Grant records her second double-double of the new year with 16 points and 13 rebounds in the win.
Freshman guard Kiara Eubanks rounded out the scoring for Wilmington with 16 points in the game.
Wilmington’s defense brought it in this game against Nyack because the team had 13 steals and caused 32 turnovers.
WilmU’s Grant Leads With 9 Points In Tight First Quarter
In the first quarter, Nyree Grant was leading the Wildcats on the scoreboard with nine points. The first quarter was a close battle between the teams but in the early minutes of the game it was not.
Wilmington jumped out to 8-2 lead to start the first quarter which the team drowned back to back three pointers in that time span.
At the 5:09 minute mark, Nyack would tie the game up at 10 with a Torie Eggers three pointer.
WilmU would outscore the Warriors 12-6 for the rest of the first quarter to give them a 22-18 lead to end the quarter.
Nyack Struggles With Shooting & Turnovers In 2nd Quarter
Wilmington’s defense stepped up in the second quarter as it made good shots go away for the Warriors. Nyack shot 33.3% in the second quarter and the team turned the ball over nine times in the quarter.
Wilmington had their own struggles with shooting in the second quarter as they team had a 27.8% shooting percentage in the quarter.
Wildcats outscored the Warriors 15-9 in the 2nd quarter to end the first half with a 37-27 lead.

Wilmington had a 35.14% shooting parentage in the first half and Nyack had 42.31%.
Wilmington’s leading scorer in the half was Jadyn Whitsitt with 13 points.
Nyack’s leading scorers in the half was Yamalis Villegas and Torie Eggers with seven points.
WilmU Free Throw Shooting Helps Them Build A Big Lead In Third Quarter
In the Third quarter, the Wildcats hit 6 out of 8 free throw shots which was crucial to build on their halftime 37-27 lead.
At the 6:11 minute mark, WilmU started on a 10-0 run which gave them a 50-31 lead with 2:35 left in the third quarter.
Wilmington would end the quarter with a 56-36 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Kiara Eubanks Scores 8 In the Fourth Quarter To Help Secure Wildcats Win
Kiara Eubanks led the Wildcats in scoring in the fourth quarter with eight points but as a team, Wilmington was outscored by Nyack 23-21.
Even though Wilmington was outscored that did not stop them from winning this game on a pretty sound note with a 77-59 home win.
WilmU will try to get a third win in a row when they go on the road to take on Concordia College on January 5th at 1:00pm ET.
