The University of Delaware men’s basketball team pulled out a tough 58-56 win at home at the Bob Carpenter Center on Thursday against William & Mary. The Blue Hens win on Thursday snapped their six game losing streak to William & Mary.
The Hens trailed most of this game until around the 5:40 minute mark in the second half where the team captured the lead for good.
Freshman guard Ithiel Horton was the leading scorer for the Blue Hens as he put up 15 points in the win.
Redshirt senior forward Eric Carter had a double-double on the night as he had 12 points and 13 rebounds in the game.
Redshirt senior guard Darian Bryant and sophomore guard Ryan Allen each scored 11 points.
William & Mary Shut Down Good Shots For Hens
The Hens in the first half struggled with the pressure of William & Mary’s defense and bad shot selection because the team shot 32% in the half. Delaware also had a woeful 18.18% shooting percentage from the three point line in the first half.
William & Mary shot 41.67% in the first half and had a 31.25% shooting percentage from three point line in the half.
The game started with the two teams trading leads before William & Mary took control and busted out with a 17-5 lead with 11:57 left in the first.
At the 4:36 minute mark, William & Mary would go up 25-13 and this game was looking out of control for Delaware.
Then at the 3:20 minute mark, Delaware woke up and had a 8-2 run which decreased William & Mary’s lead to 28-21 to end the half. Eric Carter led the charge for the Hens on that run with scoring four of the eight points on the run.

Blue Hens shot 32% in the first half and William & Mary shot 41.67%.
Delaware shot 18.18% shooting percentage and three point line and William & Mary had a 31.25% shooting percentage.
Blue Hens Fight All Half & Finally Get The Lead In Second Half
At one time in the second half, The Blue Hens were down 12 points but late in the game the deficit was in single digits.
The Hens shot the ball better in the second half as they had a 43.33 % shooting percentage in the half. Delaware’s three pointers actually went in this half as the team had 45.45 % beyond the three point line.
It was at 5:40 minute mark when Darian Bryant hit a three pointer to give Delaware their first lead of the half with a 51-49 score.
In last seconds of the game, the Hens capitalized on four free throws to seal their comeback 58-56 win.
Hens look to make it three in a row against CAA opponents as they take on Elon on January 5th at 7:00pm ET.
