Wilmington University’s Makayla McCarthy Named NFCA All-East Region Second Team Pitcher

The honors keep coming for Wilmington University freshman pitcher Makayla McCarthy as she was named to the 2018 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II All-East Region Second Team, announced on Saturday.

McCarthy was named CACC Pitcher of the Year and also named to the First Team All CACC last week for her dominating season which helped led Wilmington to a 37-17 record and second place finish in the CACC.

McCarthy was a force on the mound this season with a 18-10 record( tied 2nd in CACC) , 1.69 ERA ( 2nd in the CACC) and 211 strikeouts ( 1st in CACC) in 33 games.

The freshman pitcher became only the second Wilmington pitcher and the third time in program history to record over 200 strikeouts in a season. Former Wilmington pitcher Katie Warrington had 230 strikeouts  in 2011 and 230 strikeouts in 2013.

McCarthy also recorded 23 complete games ( 1st in CACC) and  pitched 194.2 innings this season.

194.2 innings pitched is a single season program record for the Wildcats.
