Ponzo-Meek Breaks Team Record in Wildcats 91-78 Loss to West Chester

Wilmington University fell to the West Chester Golden Rams Monday night in a 91-78 loss.  The Wildcats struggled all night shooting ( 38.8 FG%), while the Golden Rams made it look easy all night (57.9 FG%).

The one highlight for Wilmington in this game came when  Tyaire Ponzo-Meek became the Wildcats all time leading scorer surpassing Taurean Temple for the top spot. Temple had  1,423 career points and Ponzo-Meek’s 11 points vs West Chester pushed him passed Temple with 1,424 career points and no doubt the senior guard will continue to add to his lead this season.

It all started in the first half where the Golden Rams came out on fire, going on a 19-2 run vs the Wildcats. West Chester’s Malik Jackson led the charge on that run having scored 10 of the 19 points on the run. Wilmington just could not buy a basket early in the first half. The Wildcats only made one bucket in first five minutes of the game which they would continue to struggle to make shots all night long. The Wildcats managed to cut the lead to 11 points several times but not any closer than that. The Golden Rams headed into halftime with a 54-35 lead.

The Golden Rams were 18 for 29 from the field  and 9 for 16 at the three point line in the first half.

Golden Rams Malik Jackson was on fire in the first half scoring 27 points, shot 9 for 10 from the field and shot 7 for 8 at the three point line.

Wilmington were 26 for 67 from the field and 4 for 11 from the 3 point line in the first half.

Wildcats Nick Richards led the team in points with 14 in the first half.

In the second half, nothing had changed, West Chester kept draining shots and Wilmington could not stop them. Even with Nick Richards 19 points in the second half the Wildcats could never could pull closer then 11 points within the led.

Wildcats Nick Richards led the team with 33 points, 7 rebounds (5 defensive, 2 offensive, 3 assists, 3 steals and made 8 out of 9 free throws.

West Chester’s Malik Jackson led the team with 36 points, 3 rebounds ( 2 defensive, 1 offensive), 6 assists,  3 steals and made 7 out of 8 free throws.

Wilmington (6-5) heads to a CACC opponent next when they head to Chestnut Hill. Tip off is at 8:00pm ET on Thursday.
