Wilmington University took down another CAAC opponent Saturday afternoon and making it look really easy in the process. The Wildcats took care of the Georgian Court Lions 85-60 on Saturday afternoon where this game was all Wilmington.
It all started in the first half where Wilmington got off to fast start and went on a early 7-0 run. This is a change for the Wildcats who have not started off so fast in games lately but this team was just feeling good this game. Wilmington’s Drew Johnson three pointer and Omari Dill-Pettiford jump shot plus one defensive rebound was big for the early run for the Wildcats.
Georgian Court could not stop Wilmington or Dill-Pettiford who was on fire shooting in the first half and led the Wildcats to one of their biggest leads 36-16 at the 9:02 mark. Dill Pettiford hit five consecutive three pointers in that span and collected 15 points in that personal run out of his 25 first half points. Brian Adkins capped off the scoring for Wilmington in the first with a dunk at 2:39 mark in the first half. Wilmington would go into halftime leading 49-31.
Wildcats shot 51.4 % and the Lions shot 33.3 % in the first half of the game.
The big difference was three point shooting, Wilmington shot 56.3% and Georgian Court shot 25% from the three point line.
Also, the Lions had 7 turnovers in the first half while Wilmington did not have any.
Wilmington’s Omari Dill-Pettiford was the top scorer for their team in the first half with 25 points. He shot 10 for 13 from the field and 6 for 8 from three point line in the first half.
Georgian Court’s Nikola Vujovic was the top scorer for their team in first half with 9 points.
Then in the second half, the Wildcats still had the fire in them and went on a 16-3 run to put the score 71-43 with 12:01 to play in the game. Wildcats Nick Richards led the run with 6 points and capped off the run with a monster dunk.
It did not matter what Wilmington did everything was working for them and Georgian Court everything was not working for them. With 2:28 left in the game, Miles Gillette made a free throw to put Wilmington up 30 points over Georgian Court.
