Wilmington University made an interesting game at the end of the 2nd half but their comeback came up short Saturday night in a 84-81 loss to Bloomsburg University. This is Wilmington’s second straight loss to the season.
In all started early in the first half where Bloomsburg went on a 14-1 run and would not be until 15:45 where Wilmington went on their little run to cut into the lead a little. Bloomsburg was led by forward Kyle Michael-Rose who had 11 points in the 14-1 run. The Wildcats made another run and managed get deficit down to 7 by the 12:48 mark.
Then in the late first half, the Wildcats finally tied the game up at the 4:55 minute mark and then took a 35-34 lead shortly after that thanks to guard Masner Beauplan’s 2 made free throw shots.
The Bloomsburg Huskies would answer back with a 11-2 run to end the half to put them up 45-40.
Guards Tyaire Ponzo-Meek and Omari Dill-Pettiford led Wilmington with 12 points at the half.
Forward Kyle Michael-Rose led Bloomsburg at the half with 11 points.
The Huskies came out of halftime strong with a 22-4 run that put them up 67-44 with around 12:56 left in the game.
The Wildcats were not out of this game yet, they fought back with a 13-5 run of their own and got the score within 10 points at the 6:58 mark.
Wilmington was able to get within one point with the scoring being 82-81 with 25 seconds left in the game.
Then with six seconds left a costly turnover by guard Brian Adkins and it made his teammate Ponzo-Meek have to foul.
Then with four seconds left, Huskies guard Karonn Davis hit two free throws shot to seal the game at 84-81.
Ponzo-Meek was the top scorer for the Wildcats with 25 points in the game.
Guard Christian Mortellite led the Huskies with 28 points and 19 of those points came in the second half.
This is Wilmington’s first loss against a NCAA II opponent this season.
Wildcats go back on the road Monday to Shippensburg where they will place at 7pm ET.
