Walmsley’s Walk-Off Three-Run Homer Sends Wilmington Past Goldey-Beacom, 6-3, in NCAA DII East Regional

The Wilmington University baseball team moves on to the next round in the NCAA Division II Tournament East Regional 1 bracket as the team defeated its in-state rival, the Goldey-Beacom College Lightning, 6-3 on a walk-off winner.

Wilmington University trailed by three runs in the middle of the sixth inning.

Goldey-Beacom didn’t waste any time lighting up the scoreboard in this game as they scored two runs on one hit, one error, and a walk to give them a 2-0 edge in the top of the first.

Five innings later, GBC would add another run off a fielder’s choice to put their advantage at 3-0 in the sixth.

WilmU takes home a 6-3 win!

In the bottom of the sixth, the Wildcats finally made some noise on the scoreboard as Sophomore outfielder Brian Klumpp smashed a solo home run to center field to cut the deficit to two runs (3-1).

Two innings later, Klumpp would get sent home on a groundout by his teammate, Senior outfielder Cam Trego, to put the score at 3-2.

Sophomore pitcher/outfielder Zach Frame came up to bat next and hit an RBI double to right-center to tie the game at three.

Then, in the eighth inning, with two outs and two runners on base, Junior catcher Brett Walmsley came up clutch for Wilmington when he smoked a walk-off three-run homer to right field to give his team a 6-3 win and set them up with a meeting with Bentley on Saturday.

Pitching Recap:

Junior infielder/pitcher Chase Fleming started the game by pitching seven innings, giving up three hits, three runs, two earned runs, two walks, and striking out 12.

Senior pitcher Scott Borgmann earned the win by pitching one inning and striking out two.
