The game would be tied at ten at the end of the first quarter.
The game started with Hofstra jumping out a 5-2 advantage with 6:40 left in the opening quarter.
Starting at the 4:44 minute mark, the Blue Hens would outscore the Pride 8-5 to end the first quarter with the score tied at ten. Junior guard/forward Rebecca Demeke and Makayla Pippin scored six of the eight points during that time.
Blue Hens would trail by one point at the end of the first half.
Hofstra would continue to be on fire in the early minutes of a quarter, as in the second, they would go on an 8-2 run to grab an 18-12 lead with 5:36 left in the first half.
Twenty-two seconds later, UD would punch right back, as they outscored the Pride 12-6 to tie the game at 24 with 2:14 remaining in the second quarter. Makayla Pippin had the hot hand on this run, as she scored six of the team’s 12 points.
The last bucket of the first half would come from Hens Nakiyah Mays-Prince, who made a jump shot to cut the lead to one point (29-28).
Delaware would lead by three points at the end of the third quarter.
UD was ready to roll in the early minutes of the second half, as the team went on a 14-7 run to take a 42-36 edge with 3:20 left in the third quarter. Tara Cousins led the way for the Hens during this time as she scored ten of the team’s 14 points. Cousins drained two shots from the three-point line during this run.
Starting at the 2:52 minute mark, the Pride would outscore the Hens 9-6 to slice the lead to three points (48-45) at the end of the third quarter.
Blue Hens win 65-54!
The University of Delaware would start the fourth quarter off fast, as the team would go on a 10-2 run to extend their advantage 58-47 with 3:47 remaining in the game. Fifth-year guard Jewel Smalls scored six of the team’s ten points during that time.
UD would score seven more points in the fourth quarter to seal a 65-54 victory over Hofstra.
