Blue Hens would trail by seven points at the end of the first quarter.
The game started with the Hornets flying off to an 11-2 advantage with 5:03 left in the opening quarter.
Starting at the 4:36 minute mark, Delaware would outscore DSU 6-4 to pull the lead within seven points (15-8) at the end of the first quarter. The Hens’ defense was strong, as they collected four defensive rebounds and one block.
Delaware would take a seven-point lead into halftime.
In the first eight minutes of the second quarter, the Blue Hens would catch fire, as the team would outscore Delaware State 25-7 to take a 33-22 advantage. DSU could not stop the firing machine of Jewell Smalls, who drained four shots from the three-point line on this run.
Seconds later, DSU would respond by dashing off on a 6-2 run to slice the lead to seven points (35-28) at the end of the first half.
Hens would expand their lead to 25 in the third quarter.
Delaware would come out with renewed energy in the second half as the team flew off on a 21-7 run to push their advantage to 56-35 with 2:03 remaining in the third quarter. Klarke Sconiers and Nakiyah Mays-Prince would score 11 of the Blue Hens’ 21 points during this time. UD’s defense was solid on this run, as they picked up six defensive rebounds, one block, and four steals.
The University of Delaware would finish the third quarter by adding six more points to their total, which brought the score to 62-37.
Blue Hens win 74-52!
Fast forward to the 2:37 minute mark in the fourth quarter, where Jewel Smalls continued to drain three-pointers with ease, as that shot would put Delaware up by 25 (73-48).
The Hens would add one more point to their score in the final quarter to seal a 74-52 win over Delaware State.
