The Delaware Technical Community College student-athletes interviews are back!

The student-athlete we are featuring this week comes from Delaware Tech’s volleyball team, which is Cassie Swift.

Swift talks about everything from the best part of being a defensive specialist and why she chose to play volleyball at Delaware Tech.

How did you start playing sports?

“I was in sixth grade, and my middle school sports programs were building, so I tried out for every female sport, and everything has built from there.”

What adjustments did you have to make from the jump from high school to college, regarding the sport you play?

“The jump I had to make from high school to college was definitely making more time to practice and condition outside practice hours.”

How do you keep yourself in game shape in the off-season for your sport?

“To keep myself in shape, I would go to the gym three times a week and keep my diet healthy.”

What is the best part of playing your particular position?

“The best part about being a defensive specialist has to be getting a good dig.”

What has a former or current coach taught you, that you still use today on or off the playing field?

“One thing a former coach has taught me that I still do to this day is constantly moving my feet while waiting for the serve.”

What is a typical day for you when the season is in full force?

“A typical day for me when the season is in full force is waking up, going to class, going home to do homework for about an hour, heading to work, get to practice, going home, preparing for the next day, and then going to bed.”

What do you feel is your greatest strength?

“My greatest strength would be keeping a positive mindset on and off the court.”

What do you feel you are weakest at and what do you work on to improve it?

“I am definitely the weakest in my confidence. To improve, I just have to remember everyone makes mistakes.”

Describe some of the highlights of your athletic career.

“One of the best highlights would be during club volleyball season, playing good teams and getting digs on their hits.”

What is the best part of playing on a team?

“The best part about playing on a team is you make great friendships, and you get to all play for the same reason.”

How do you stay motivated during the highs and lows of a season?

“I always stay motivated during the highs and lows by keeping in the back of my mind that we will overcome the challenge.”

What has been the biggest challenge you have faced and how did you overcome it?

“The biggest challenge I have faced playing would be getting stuck in a negative mindset. I have learned to shake off the mistakes and move to the next play.”

In what ways, does playing a sport, help you with your studies?

“Playing a sport helps you with your studies because you must stay focused and have good grades.”

How would you like to be remembered by your teammates and coaches?

“I would like to be remembered as a good, caring teammate. “

Why did you choose to play at Delaware Tech?

“I chose to play volleyball at Delaware Tech because it was the best option for me to get to play while getting an education.”
