In the final non-conference game of the season, Wilmington University Men’s Soccer team gave its Head Coach Nick Papanicolas a milestone 150th win as the Wildcats took down Bridgeport University 2-1.
This is Papanicolas’s 14th year as the head coach of the Men’s Soccer team for Wilmington and he has been the only head coach of the Men’s Soccer program since the Wildcats NCAA era. This is the 150th win for the Men’s Soccer program as well. Papanicolas is 150-97-27 as the head coach of the Wildcats.
So how did the Cats get this 150th win?
Well, it all started around the 30th minute when forward Tom Garratt scored a goal to put Wilmington up 1-0. Garratt got the assist from Daniel MacDonald-Taylor’s shot that bounced off the post.
The goal was Garratt’s second of the season and it was MacDonald-Taylor’s first assist of the season.
Then the second goal came in the second half when Daniel MacDonald-Taylor scored in the 62nd minute with an assist from Jake Meyer.
It was MacDonald-Taylor’s first goal of the season and Meyer’s second assist of the season.
Bridgeport did get on the board around the 85th minute with a score from Femi Coker.
Wilmington goalie Connor Halsted’s stats were he allowed 1 goal and had 3 saves in 90:00 minutes of work.
Wildcats (8-5-3) face Concordia for their final away game of the season on Saturday at 2:00pm ET.
