The Delaware State University’s football team opened up the season on Saturday by taking home a dominating 34-0 victory over the Lincoln (PA) University Lions.
The offensive standouts in the game for the Hornets were Redshirt junior quarterback Jared Lewis, Redshirt freshman running back Marquis Gillis, Redshirt senior running back Thomas Bertrand-Hudon, Redshirt sophomore running back Wade Inge, and Redshirt freshman quarterback C.J. Henry.
Lewis went four for eight with 87 passing yards and one touchdown in the game.
Gillis had 12 rushing attempts for 86 yards in the win.
Bertrand-Hudon had eight rushing attempts for 33 yards with one rushing touchdown.
Inge had four rushing attempts for 20 yards with one rushing touchdown.
Henry had one rushing attempt in the win for 17 yards, which resulted in a touchdown.
On the defensive side, the standouts were senior linebacker Brooks Parker, junior defensive back Jayden Estes, Redshirt sophomore linebacker Maurio Goings, Redshirt sophomore defensive back Jeffery Broughton, and Redshirt senior linebacker Kamari Jackson.
Brooks led the team in tackles with nine in the game.
Estes had five tackles and one sack in the win.
Goings had four tackles and one sack in the game.
Broughton had two tackles and one sack in the win.
Jackson had two tackles and forced a fumble in the game.
