The University of Delaware men’s soccer team opened up their season on Thursday with a 2-0 win over the Mount St. Mary’s University Mountaineers. The win marks the first victory for the new head coach Tommy McMenemy.
The standouts in the game for the Blue Hens were redshirt senior forward Seidu Shamsudeen, freshman forward Sam Donnellan, freshman midfielder Florian Phlepsen, junior forward Carlos Fernandez, and Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Adam Vik.
Shamsudeen had three shots, one shot at the goal, and one goal in the win.
Donnellan had two shots, one shot at the goal, and one goal in the game.
Phlepsen had one shot, one shot at the goal, and one assist in the win.
Fernandez had two shots, one shot at the goal, and one assist in the game.
Vik allowed zero goals in 90 minutes and had two saves in the win.
