Wilmington leads by three runs after one inning
The scoring in this game would get started in the bottom of the first inning when the Wildcats would drive in three runs.
Lexi Moore would get the action started in the bottom of the first by hitting a single up the middle of the field. Moore would follow that up by stealing second base. Gabbie Saucedo would be the next batter up, as she doubled to center field, which would send Moore home to give WilmU a 1-0 lead.
Two batters later, Lauren Lopez would hit a double to left-center field, which would allow Saucedo to score to give their team a 2-0 lead. The next batter up would be Emma Zimmerman as she hit a double down the left-field line, which would send Lopez home to extend Wilmington’s lead to 3-0.
Wildcats add another run in the third inning
Two innings later, the WilmU lineup would push through another run to extend their lead to 4-0.
The lone run in the third inning came when Haley Downin hit an RBI bunt single to the pitcher, which allowed Lexi Moore to score.
WilmU adds three more runs in the fifth inning
Wilmington was not done adding to their lead as in the fifth inning, the team drove in three runs to take a 7-0 advantage.
The first two runs of the bottom of the fifth inning came when Lauren Lopez hit a single to right field, which allowed Lexi Moore to score. Gabbie Saucedo would also score during this play, but she would go home by a throwing error from Bloomfield’s right fielder.
Three plays later, Freshman catcher/outfielder Tristyn Stewart would reach first base on a fielder’s choice, but it allowed Haley Downin to score to give WilmU a 7-0 lead.
Wilmington wins 8-0!
Wilmington’s starting pitcher Kylee Gunkel confused and dominated the Bears lineup for five innings, and it would continue in the sixth as Bloomfield would remain scoreless on the scoreboard.
The Wildcats would add one last run in the bottom of the sixth inning, when sophomore first baseman Sara Miller hit an RBI double to left-center field, which gave the team an 8-0 win.
