Wilmington trails 2-0 after two innings
It would be in the bottom of the second inning when the scoreboard would see some runs, as West Chester’s Mary Picozzi would hit a two-run homer to give her team a 2-0 lead.
Wilmington would answer back in the top of the third inning by scoring two runs to tie the game.
Taylor Gillis scored the first run in the third inning when she was sent home on a wild pitch. On the next play, Haley Downin would reach first base with a walk. Downin would be caught stealing on the next play, but it would allow Lexi Moore to score to tie the score at two runs.
Wildcats add three more runs in the fifth inning
Two innings later, WilmU would push in three more runs to take a 5-2 lead.
The action in the fifth inning started with Lexi Moore hitting a single to center field. Haley Downin would be the next batter, as she earned a spot on base from an error by the Golden Rams pitcher. Moore would score on that same error to give Wilmington a 3-2 lead. Lopez would step up to the plate, as she hit a single up the middle of the field.
Two batters later, Kiersten Comer would single to left field, which allowed Downin to score to give their team a 4-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning. Freshman catcher Emma Zimmerman would push in the last run of the inning as she hit a two-out double down the left-field line, which would score Lopez to give the Wildcats a 5-2 lead.
Wilmington wins 8-2!
WilmU was not done scoring just yet, as the team added three more runs to their lead in the top of the sixth inning.
The sixth inning started with Taylor Gillis reaching first base with a walk. Three batters later, Lauren Lopez would hit a two-RBI double to right-center to give her team a 7-2 advantage. Two batters later, Kiersten Comer would hit a two-out double to left-center to send Lopez home to give the Cats an 8-2 lead.
Except for the second inning, the Wildcats starting pitcher Renamarie Rocha threw five shutout innings, and she was looking to make it six in the seventh inning. Rocha would seal the 8-2 with two hits, two ground outs, and one pop-out in the seventh inning.
