Wilmington gets the scoring started in the first inning
The action on the bases for Wilmington started in the bottom of the first inning when the team had two hits and pushed in one run.
Haley Downin would be the fourth batter up in the first inning, as she hit a two-out RBI single to the shortstop to give WilmU a 1-0 lead.
Wilmington would continue to add to their lead in the second inning, as the team pushed through two more runs.
Courtney Dellinger would be the fourth batter up in the bottom of the second inning, as she hit a two-out RBI single to center field to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.
The next batter up would be Taylor Gillis, who would hit a double to center field, which would allow Dellinger to score to extend their team’s lead 3-0.
Wildcats score ten runs in the third inning
After getting silenced for two innings, the Felician bats woke up in the third, as the team collected three hits and scored two runs. Both runs came from RBI singles.
In the bottom of the third inning, WilmU’s batting lineup exploded as the team had ten hits, and pushed through ten runs.
The monster inning of scoring started with Sara Miller hitting a two-RBI single to give the Cats a 5-2 lead.
Freshman outfielder Gabbie Saucedo would be the next batter up, as she hit a double to right-center field to send Miller home to give their team a 6-2 lead.
On the next play, Adriana Bueno would hit a double, but Saucedo would score on a throwing error from the Golden Falcons’ center fielder to make the score 7-2.
Two plays later, Bueno would score on Tristyn Stewart’s ground out to expand the lead to 8-2 for Wilmington.
Two batters later, Taylor Gillis would hit an RBI double to center field to push the team’s lead to 9-2.
Three batters later, Haley Downin would hit an RBI double to left field, which would send Gillis home to give the Wildcats a 10-2 advantage.
Miller would come back up to the plate, as she would hit a two-RBI double to left field, which extended WilmU’s lead to 12-2.
The last run of the inning came from Saucedo as she also hit a double, which would allow Miller to score to push the lead to 13-2.
Wilmington wins 18-2!
Wilmington was not done scoring just yet, as their bats knocked in five more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Taylor Gillis would get the scoring started in the fourth inning, as she hit an RBI double to left-center to give her team a 14-2 lead.
On the next play, Lexi Moore would reach first base by an error by the Golden Falcons pitcher, and Gillis would score on that same error to push the Wildcats’ lead to 15-2.
Graduate student shortstop Lauren Lopez would step up to the plate next, as she hit an RBI single to the left side of the field to give her team a 16-2 advantage.
Two batters later, Sara Miller would ground out, but it would allow Lopez to score to extend the lead to 17-2.
The last score of the inning came from Gabbie Saucedo, who hit an RBI single to right field to expand Wilmington’s lead to 18-2.
In the top of the fifth inning, it would all be on starting pitcher Kylee Gunkel to shut the door on the dominating 18-2 win, and she did just that as Gunkel managed to set all the Felician batters down in order.
