Goldey-Beacom gets the scoring started in the third inning

The first two innings of this game belonged to the pitchers as they shut down the opposing lineups to keep the scoreboard quiet.

In the top of the third inning, that would all change when Goldey-Beacom scored the first run of the game.

The inning started with Kayla Vaillancourt getting on base with a walk. Three batters later, Carly Setting would hit a two-out single to right-center field to send Vaillancourt home to give the Lightning a 1-0 lead.

Goldey-Beacom’s next scoring inning would not happen until the fifth inning when the offense exploded by adding eight runs to their lead.

The first three Lightning batters would get on base by walk, error, and hit by a pitch. Setting would step up with the bases loaded, as she would hit a two-RBI single to give her team a 3-0 lead.

Jaeda Henriquez would be the next batter as she would also hit a two-RBI single, which gave Goldey-Beacom a 5-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning.

Chrissy Jordan would step up to the plate next as she would hit a double to center field, which would allow Henriquez to go home to give their team a 6-0 lead.

Sophomore first baseman/outfielder Nicole Makin would continue the scoring as she hit a triple, which would send Jordan home to give the Lightning a 7-0 lead.

Morgan McLane would be the next batter up, as she hit a single to center field, which would allow Makin to go home to give their team an 8-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning.

The last run of the inning came from junior infielder Bianca Newsom, who hit a single to left field, which allowed McLane to score to give Goldey Beacom a 9-0 lead.

After pitching a shutout for four straight innings, the Lightning’s starting pitcher Morgan McLane only needed to do it one more inning to seal the win.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, she would give up one home run, a single, had a player pop out, strikeout, and ended the game on a fielder’s choice to seal the 9-1 win for the Lightning.
